A Parts Desk Built Around Land Rovers
Land Rover Pro Spares answers one kind of question all day: which part fits this particular Defender, Discovery, Range Rover or Freelander, and what are the options for it. We work from the SparesBoyz counter at 89 Chris Hani Road in Durban North.

Our Story
Why a Land Rover Needs Its Own Parts Desk
Ask for "a Discovery water pump" and you have not yet said which vehicle you drive. The Discovery 3 and Discovery 4 share the L319 body code, yet the diesel Discovery 3 used a 2.7 TDV6 while the Discovery 4 moved to 3.0 TDV6 and SDV6 engines. A Range Rover Sport L320 sits on the same integrated body-frame as those Discoverys, while the later L494 is a different vehicle again. Across the 18 models we cover, the name on the tailgate is often the least useful fact about the car.
Then there is air suspension. Most full-size Range Rovers, Range Rover Sports and Discovery 3, 4 and 5 models ride on it, and a sagging corner can be the compressor, an air spring, the valve block or a ride-height sensor. Quoting the wrong one is expensive for everyone, so the desk asks before it quotes. Our air suspension parts page explains the components.
Engines tell the same story. The Td5 five-cylinder in a classic Defender or Discovery 2, the TDV6 family in the Discovery 3 and 4, and the Ingenium four- and six-cylinder units in the new Defender and Discovery Sport have almost nothing in common. That is why, for big items like a replacement engine, the VIN and engine code come first.
The desk is run from the premises of SparesBoyz, a Durban parts business. Its founders, John Hunt and Paul Shannon, have been in business together since 1988, and SparesBoyz say the SparesBoyz brand itself was established in 2004. They also say their supplier database runs to more than 12,000 contacts, built up over about twenty years. That network is what we lean on when a part is not on the shelf.

Four Families, Many Generations
The vehicles we quote parts for, grouped the way the desk thinks about them.
Defender (2 models)
From the ladder-chassis Defender 90/110/130 with its Td5 and Puma diesels to the aluminium-monocoque L663 with Ingenium engines, which shares little beyond its name with the original.
Discovery (5 models)
Discovery 2 through Discovery 5 and Discovery Sport. The Discovery 3 and 4 share the L319 body code but not their engines, which is exactly where wrong-part orders come from.
Range Rover (9 models)
Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Evoque and Velar across several generations. Most full-size and Sport models ride on air suspension, which changes the parts conversation completely.
- Range Rover (L322) 2002–2012
- Range Rover (L405) 2013–2022
- Range Rover (L460) 2022–present
- Range Rover Sport (L320) 2005–2013
- Range Rover Sport (L494) 2013–2022
- Range Rover Sport (L461) 2022–present
- Range Rover Evoque (L538) 2011–2019
- Range Rover Evoque (L551) 2019–present
- Range Rover Velar 2017–present
Freelander (2 models)
Freelander 1 with its viscous coupling and intermediate reduction drive, and Freelander 2 with a Haldex coupling. Different drivelines, different failure points.
How an Enquiry Works
Used, new or reconditioned is a decision about your vehicle and your budget, so we lay the options out rather than push one.
-
Tell us the vehicle
Model, year and engine are a start. The 17-character VIN is better, because it settles which generation, engine and axle build you actually have.
-
The parts desk matches the part
Someone who works with these vehicles checks fitment and looks at what is realistic for that part: used, new (OEM or aftermarket), or a reconditioned unit where one exists.
-
You get a quote to consider
You see the options and the price before anything is committed. No obligation to go ahead.
-
Collect or courier
Collect from Briardene, or have courier delivery arranged to wherever you are in South Africa. Carriage is quoted with the part.
Used
Original components taken from vehicles being stripped. Often the sensible route on older Land Rovers and on large assemblies such as gearboxes and transfer cases.
New
OEM or aftermarket, depending on what is available for that part. Common for service items and anything where wear matters, like brakes and suspension bushes.
Reconditioned
Rebuilt units exist for some major components, such as certain turbochargers, and can sit between used and new on price. Availability varies by part and vehicle, so ask.

What You Can Expect
Fitment questions first
We would rather ask for a VIN or a photo of the old part than send something that does not fit your generation.
Options, not a single price
Where more than one route exists, used, new or reconditioned, you hear about each so you can choose.
A real counter you can visit
The photographs on this page are the building. Walk in during trading hours or phone the same number.
