Land Rover parts by model and generation

Choose the generation you drive. Each page lists the engines, gearboxes, drivetrain and known faults for that model as sold in South Africa.

Why the chassis code matters more than the badge

Land Rover has reused its model names across generations that share almost nothing. A Discovery 2 has a separate chassis, beam axles and usually a Td5 diesel; the Discovery 3 that replaced it moved to an integrated body-frame, independent suspension with air springs on most versions, and V6 diesels. The same happened to the Range Rover Sport, where the L320 shares its running gear with the Discovery 3 and 4 while the L494 that followed is closer to the aluminium L405 Range Rover. Ordering by name alone is the most common way to end up with a part that looks right and does not fit.

The chassis code, such as L319, L494 or L551, narrows the part down to one platform. The model year matters next, because parts changed during production: the Freelander 2's Haldex unit, the crankshaft bearings in V6 diesels built from 2012, and the move from 2.2 to 2.0 Ingenium engines in the Evoque and Discovery Sport are all mid-life changes. Finally, the engine code separates vehicles that share a body, like a Td6 and an Si6 Discovery 5.

You do not need to work any of this out yourself. The VIN on your licence document identifies the vehicle, and the parts team uses it with your engine number to confirm fitment before quoting.
