Air suspension faults
Compressors, valve blocks, reservoirs, height sensors and front and rear air struts all appear in specialist repair lists for the L405, usually with a suspension warning and a vehicle that will not raise.

Each system page explains what is specific to the Range Rover (L405) before you narrow down to the part.
L405 parts requests are led by air suspension (air struts, compressors, height sensors, valve blocks), diesel turbochargers, NOx sensors and AdBlue parts, DPFs and V6 diesel intake manifolds. Brake discs and pads are a big-ticket routine item, as are front anti-roll bar bushes, drop links and hub bearings. Body and lighting parts are common after accidents. Give us your VIN, engine and wheelbase before ordering. Diesel owners from the 2016 model year on should keep an eye on AdBlue levels, because running out immobilises the vehicle and overfilling can damage the NOx sensors, both of which lead to parts orders that are avoidable.
The L405 Range Rover arrived in 2013 with an aluminium monocoque that took significant weight out of the full-size Range Rover, and it remained on sale until the L460 replaced it in 2022. In South Africa the 4.4 SDV8 diesel was the signature engine, producing 250kW and 740Nm through an eight-speed automatic, alongside 3.0 V6 diesels, in Vogue, Vogue SE and Autobiography trims with standard and long wheelbases. A large number of these vehicles are now out of warranty and on their second or third owner, which is when parts costs start to matter. The L405's air suspension is standard and, like its predecessor's, it has many components that wear. The diesel engines carry diesel particulate filters and, from the 2016 model year, AdBlue selective catalytic reduction, which bring their own run of sensor and regeneration faults. Turbocharger replacements are a regular job on the V6 and V8 diesels, and the V6 diesel's plastic intake manifold and throttle body are known troublemakers. Brakes are large and expensive on a heavy luxury SUV, particularly on vehicles with performance brakes. Send us your VIN and engine code, and tell us whether the vehicle is a standard or long wheelbase.
Engine parts are rarely shared between these units, so quote the engine code or number with every engine-related enquiry.

Turbo replacement on the 3.0 V6 and 4.4 V8 diesels is a recognised repair on the L405.
Diesels from the 2016 model year use AdBlue SCR. Running out immobilises the car, and overfilling can damage the NOx sensors.
All diesel L405s have a DPF that needs high-speed driving to regenerate; blocked filters need forced regeneration, cleaning or replacement.
On 3.0 V6 diesel JLR engines, clogged throttle bodies and cracked plastic inlet manifolds cause restricted performance warnings.
The L405 Range Rover's air suspension, diesel emissions systems and turbochargers are the main maintenance concerns. Diesels from the 2016 model year use AdBlue, so keep it topped up without overfilling. The diesel particulate filter needs regular high-speed driving to regenerate. On the 3.0 V6 diesel, clogged throttle bodies and cracked plastic inlet manifolds cause restricted performance warnings. Brakes are large and expensive, and front anti-roll bar bushes and drop links wear.
The signature local engine was the 4.4 SDV8 turbodiesel, producing 250kW and 740Nm through an eight-speed automatic, and 3.0 V6 diesels were also sold. Check your VIN or licence document before ordering engine parts, because the V6 and V8 diesels share very little.
Diesel L405s from the 2016 model year use a selective catalytic reduction system that needs AdBlue. If it runs out, the vehicle will be immobilised until the tank is topped up. Overfilling can also damage the NOx sensors, which are a common and costly repair.
Send the part name, your VIN and engine number. The SparesBoyz parts team checks fitment for your L405 before quoting.
