Understanding Left Front Door
On South African right-hand-drive Land Rovers, the left front door is the passenger door. A door can be bought as a bare shell or as a complete assembly with glass, window regulator, lock, speaker and trim. Classic Defender doors use aluminium skins on steel frames, while newer models use steel or aluminium door shells with complex wiring for mirrors, locks and switches.
Classic Defender door frames rust along the bottom edge, and the skins corrode where they are folded over the frame.

Common Questions About Land Rover left front door
Should I buy a bare door shell or a complete door?
A complete door with glass, regulator and lock is faster to fit and useful if the internals were damaged. A shell is cheaper if you can transfer your own parts, but it adds labour.
Why does my Defender door frame rust?
Water collects in the bottom of the steel frame, and drain holes block with dirt. Clear the drain holes regularly and treat any rust early.
Will a door from another Land Rover model fit?
Doors are specific to the model and often to the production period. Match by VIN or part number, as mountings and wiring connectors change.
What should I send to order a left front door?
The VIN, paint code and whether you want a bare shell or complete door. Mention mirror type and trim if you want a complete door.
