Understanding Battery
The battery starts the engine and powers the electronics when the engine is off. Land Rovers with stop-start and heavy electrical loads often use AGM (absorbent glass mat) batteries, which handle frequent deep cycling better than conventional flooded batteries. Some models also carry a second, auxiliary battery.
Heat shortens battery life, and a vehicle packed with electronics can drain a battery while parked. Using the battery type and size specified for your vehicle matters, especially on stop-start models.

Questions
Common Questions About Land Rover battery
Does my Land Rover need an AGM battery?
If it was fitted with an AGM battery from the factory, which is common on stop-start models, replace it with an AGM battery of the same rating. Fitting a conventional battery can shorten battery life and upset the stop-start and battery monitoring systems.
Do I need to register a new battery?
On some newer Land Rovers, the battery monitoring system should be told a new battery has been fitted, using a diagnostic tool. This helps the charging system look after the new battery properly. Your workshop can confirm whether your model needs it.
What size battery does my Land Rover take?
It depends on the model, engine and equipment. Check the label on the existing battery for its size and rating, or send the VIN so the correct battery can be matched.
Why does my new battery keep going flat?
Look for a parasitic drain or a charging problem. Test the alternator output and measure the current draw with the vehicle locked and asleep.
