Know the part
Understanding Lighting
Land Rover lighting covers headlights, fog lights, tail lights, indicators, number plate lights and interior lamps. Older models such as the classic Defender use simple sealed or halogen lamps, while later Discoverys and Range Rovers use xenon or LED headlights with automatic levelling and, on some models, adaptive functions.
Working lights are a basic roadworthy requirement. Modern light units are expensive because the lens, reflector and electronics are often one sealed assembly, so a cracked lens or failed LED module usually means replacing the whole unit.

Questions
Common Questions About Land Rover lighting
Can I replace just the bulb in a Land Rover LED light?
Usually not. On most LED units the light source is built into the assembly, so a failed LED means replacing the unit or a specific module inside it. Halogen and xenon units still use replaceable bulbs.
Why is there condensation in my Land Rover lights?
A small amount of mist that clears when the lights are on can be normal. Water pooling inside the lamp points to a broken seal, a crack or a missing vent cap, which can damage the electrics.
Are lights a roadworthy issue in South Africa?
Yes. Roadworthy inspectors check that the headlights, tail lights, brake lights and indicators all work. A failed or damaged lamp can fail a roadworthy test.
What should I send when ordering Land Rover lights?
The VIN, the side of the vehicle, and whether the current light is halogen, xenon or LED. Many models offered several headlight types in the same year.
