Understanding Rear Bumper

The rear bumper protects the back of the vehicle and often includes a step pad, parking sensors, reflectors, exhaust finishers and a tow bar cut-out. On newer models there may also be blind-spot radar sensors behind the corners. Classic Defenders use a steel rear crossmember with a separate bumper or step.

Rear bumpers are easily damaged when reversing into obstacles or on steep departures off-road, and the step pads wear through with use.

Questions

Common Questions About Land Rover rear bumper

Can I replace just the rear step pad?

On many Discovery and Range Rover models the step or trim is a separate part. Check the part catalogue for your VIN.

Do I need a tow bar cut-out in my new bumper?

If the vehicle has a detachable or fixed tow bar, the bumper or its lower trim may need a matching cut-out or cover. Tell us if a tow bar is fitted.

Will blind-spot sensors need recalibrating?

If radar sensors behind the rear bumper were removed or disturbed, recalibration may be needed. Your workshop can confirm.

What should I send to order a rear bumper?

The VIN, paint code, and whether the vehicle has parking sensors, a tow bar and exhaust finishers in the bumper.
