Understanding Fuel Injectors
Fuel injectors spray fuel into the cylinders in precise amounts. The 300Tdi uses mechanical injectors fed by an injection pump. The Td5 uses electronic unit injectors that are operated by the camshaft. The V6 and V8 diesels and Ingenium engines use common-rail injectors that fire several times per combustion cycle under very high pressure.
On many common-rail engines, each injector has a code that must be programmed into the engine control unit when it is replaced. Injector sealing washers can also leak combustion gas, leaving black carbon around the injector and a puffing noise.

Questions
Common Questions About Land Rover fuel injectors
Do new injectors need coding on my Land Rover?
On many common-rail diesels, yes. Each injector carries a calibration code that is entered into the engine control unit with a diagnostic tool. Skipping this can cause rough running and smoke.
What is injector blow-by?
When the sealing washer under an injector fails, combustion gas escapes past it, leaving black carbon and making a puffing or chuffing noise. Replace the washer before carbon builds up and makes the injector difficult to remove.
Should I replace all the injectors at once?
Not necessarily. A back-leak test or injector balance test can identify faulty injectors. On high-mileage engines, replacing the full set can give smoother running.
What should I send to order injectors?
The VIN, engine code and the part number printed on the old injector.
Not sure which part fits?
Send your VIN or engine code and the SparesBoyz parts team will check fitment before quoting. Parts are couriered nationwide.
