Understanding Discovery 4 Headlights
Headlight units on Land Rovers range from the classic Defender's round lamps to the complex LED matrix units on newer Range Rovers. In between, Discovery 3, Discovery 4, Freelander 2 and early Evoques were offered with halogen or xenon units, and later models moved to LED.
The same model can have several headlight types, and they are not always interchangeable because of different wiring, levelling motors and control modules. Matching the exact type and side is essential.

Common Questions About Discovery 4 headlights
Can I upgrade my Land Rover from halogen to xenon or LED headlights?
It is possible on some models, but it may need extra wiring, levelling components and coding. A plug-in LED bulb in a halogen reflector can dazzle other drivers. Discuss the full conversion with a specialist before buying lights.
Are broken headlight mounting tabs repairable?
Repair kits exist for some headlight units, which can be cheaper than a new unit if the lens and internals are fine. If the unit also leaks or the lens is damaged, replacement is better.
Is it safe to work on xenon headlights myself?
Xenon systems use a very high voltage to ignite the bulb. Disconnect the lamp before working on it and follow the workshop procedure, or have a workshop do it.
What details do I need to order a headlight?
The VIN, which side you need, and a photo of the current unit showing whether it is halogen, xenon or LED. If you can read the part number on the back of the unit, include it.
