Freelander 1 EGR valve
EGR valves, EGR coolers and pipes for Land Rover diesel engines.
Matching EGR valve to a Freelander 1
The Freelander 1 (L314, 1998–2006) was sold here with 2 different engines. Gearbox: 5-speed Steptronic automatic (KV6); Manual or automatic (Td4). Send the VIN and engine number with your enquiry so the parts team can confirm the correct EGR valve before quoting.

Understanding Freelander 1 EGR Valve
The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve feeds a controlled amount of exhaust gas back into the intake to lower combustion temperatures and reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. Most Land Rover diesels, from the Td5 to the V6 diesels and Ingenium engines, have EGR, and many also have an EGR cooler that uses engine coolant to cool the recirculated gas.
Soot builds up in the valve and cooler, especially on vehicles used for short trips, and valves can stick open or closed. A leaking EGR cooler can also let coolant into the intake.

Common Questions About Freelander 1 EGR valve
Can a Land Rover EGR valve be cleaned?
A sooty valve can sometimes be cleaned and returned to service, especially if the actuator still works. If the valve is electrically faulty or badly worn, replace it.
How do I know if my EGR cooler is leaking?
Unexplained coolant loss, white smoke and coolant residue in the intake are warning signs. A workshop can pressure-test the cooling system to confirm.
Should I blank off my EGR valve?
Blanking or deleting the EGR changes the emissions system and usually causes fault codes on modern diesels. It is not a proper repair. Fix or replace the valve instead.
What should I send to order an EGR valve?
The VIN and engine code, and say whether you need the valve, the cooler or connecting pipes.
