Understanding Freelander 1 Rearview Mirror
The interior rear-view mirror on newer Land Rovers is often auto-dimming, reducing glare from headlights behind. The mirror mount area on the windscreen may also house the rain and light sensor, a forward-facing camera and, on some models, a digital camera mirror that shows a video feed from the rear.
When a windscreen is replaced, the mirror and any sensors are transferred, and cameras may need recalibration.

Common Questions About Freelander 1 rearview mirror
Why is my auto-dimming mirror leaking?
Auto-dimming mirrors contain a gel between two layers of glass. If the glass cracks, the gel can leak and damage the dashboard. Replace the mirror.
Does a new windscreen affect the mirror?
The mirror and any sensors are moved to the new windscreen. Driver assistance cameras may need recalibrating afterwards.
Can I fit a non-dimming mirror to replace an auto-dimming one?
It will fit physically in many cases, but you lose the dimming function and the connector will be unused.
What should I send to order a rear-view mirror?
The VIN and whether the mirror is auto-dimming or has a camera display.
