Freelander 2 cooling
Radiators, pumps, pipes and sensors to keep Land Rover engines cool in South African heat.
What is specific to the Freelander 2
Radiators, water pumps, thermostats and hoses are matched to the engine. On the Freelander 2 that means knowing which of these you have: 3.2 i6 straight-six petrol, 2.2 TD4 turbodiesel, 2.2 SD4 turbodiesel and 2.0 Si4 turbo petrol.
Have this ready when you enquire
- The 17-character VIN from your licence document, which identifies your exact L359 (sold here 2007–2015) and its build.
- The engine code or number, because this model was sold with the 3.2 i6 straight-six petrol, 2.2 TD4 turbodiesel, 2.2 SD4 turbodiesel and 2.0 Si4 turbo petrol.
- A photo of the old part or its part number, if you can get to it.

Freelander 2 cooling questions
Why is my Land Rover losing coolant?
Start with an external check for leaks at hoses, plastic pipes, the expansion tank, radiator, water pump and heater connections. If there is no visible leak, a cooling system pressure test can find hidden leaks, and a combustion gas test checks for a head gasket or EGR cooler problem.
What coolant should I use in my Land Rover?
Use the coolant type specified in your owner's handbook, mixed with clean water in the stated ratio. Do not mix coolant types, as some are incompatible. Plain water gives no corrosion protection.
