Understanding Coilovers
A coilover combines a coil spring and a shock absorber in one unit, often with adjustable ride height or damping. On Land Rovers, coilovers are mostly used in overland and off-road builds, and in air-to-coil conversion kits for Discovery 3, Discovery 4 and Range Rover Sport owners who no longer want air suspension.
A conversion replaces the air springs, compressor and valve block with fixed-height springs. It removes the air system's failure points, but also removes adjustable ride height, and usually needs the vehicle's settings recoded so it does not show suspension faults.

Questions
Common Questions About Land Rover coilovers
Should I convert my Discovery 3 or 4 from air to coil?
It depends on how you use the vehicle. Air suspension gives adjustable ride height, a comfortable ride and good off-road clearance. A coil conversion avoids air system repairs but gives a fixed height and a different ride. Repairing a well-maintained air system is often the better choice if the rest of the system is healthy.
Will an air-to-coil conversion cause warning lights?
It can. Most conversions require the vehicle's configuration to be changed with a diagnostic tool so the systems that expect air suspension, such as Terrain Response and the ride height controls, do not report faults.
Do coilovers affect insurance or roadworthiness?
Significant suspension modifications may need to be declared to your insurer. Keep receipts and details of the parts fitted.
What should I send to get a coilover quote?
The VIN, the vehicle's usual loaded weight, what you use it for and any lift height you want. That lets the right spring and damper setup be recommended.
