Understanding Right Rear Quarter Panel

The right rear quarter panel surrounds the rear wheel on the driver's side of right-hand-drive vehicles and, on many models, includes the fuel filler flap. Damage here can affect the filler neck, the tail light mounting and the tailgate or rear door gaps.

On classic Defenders, the equivalent rear body side panel is bolted and riveted to the rear tub and suffers from corrosion where steel cappings and brackets touch the aluminium.

Questions

Common Questions About Land Rover right rear quarter panel

Does quarter panel damage affect the fuel filler?

It can. If the filler flap, housing or neck has been pushed in, check for fuel leaks and have the filler area repaired along with the panel.

Why is my Defender rear body corroding?

Steel cappings, brackets and fasteners in contact with aluminium panels cause galvanic corrosion. Use barrier tape and suitable fasteners during repairs.

Can a quarter panel be repaired without repainting the whole side?

Panel shops blend paint into adjacent panels so the colour matches. The area painted depends on the damage and colour.

What should I send to order a right rear quarter panel?

The VIN, paint code and photos of the damaged area.
