Understanding Downpipe

The downpipe connects the turbocharger outlet to the rest of the exhaust. On many Land Rover diesels it also carries or connects to the catalytic converter or DPF, and it may hold exhaust temperature or pressure sensors.

Downpipes run extremely hot, and the joint at the turbo is a common place for leaks. A leaking downpipe can cause boost faults, noise and fumes in the engine bay.

Questions

Common Questions About Land Rover downpipe

Should I replace the downpipe gasket when removing the turbo?

Yes. Always fit a new gasket and new fixings at the turbo outlet when the joint is disturbed.

Does a downpipe leak affect performance?

It can cause noise and upset sensor readings, which may trigger warning lights or reduced power. It also lets hot gas damage nearby parts.

Is a performance downpipe a good idea?

On diesel Land Rovers, a downpipe that deletes or bypasses emissions equipment is not a proper repair and can cause warning lights. Replace with a part that keeps the original emissions equipment.

What should I send to order a downpipe?

The VIN and engine code, plus a photo of the turbo outlet and downpipe.

Not sure which part fits?

Send your VIN or engine code and the SparesBoyz parts team will check fitment before quoting. Parts are couriered nationwide.
