Understanding Exhaust Hangers

Exhaust hangers are rubber mounts and metal brackets that hold the exhaust to the underside of the vehicle while letting it move with the engine. Rubber perishes with heat and age, and brackets can rust or bend.

On Land Rovers used off-road, hangers take a pounding from rough terrain and can be torn off by rocks. A broken hanger puts strain on the rest of the exhaust and can crack joints or the flexi pipe.

Questions

Common Questions About Land Rover exhaust hangers

Why does my exhaust knock over bumps?

Worn or broken rubber mounts let the exhaust move too much and hit the chassis or body. Replace the mounts and check the clearance all along the system.

Should I replace all the exhaust mounts at once?

If one has failed from age, the others are probably worn too. They are low-cost parts, so replacing the set is sensible.

Can a broken hanger damage the exhaust?

Yes. Extra movement puts stress on joints, flexi pipes and the manifold, which can lead to leaks and cracks.

What should I send to order exhaust hangers?

The VIN and the position of the mount, or a photo, since shapes differ along the system.

Not sure which part fits?

Send your VIN or engine code and the SparesBoyz parts team will check fitment before quoting. Parts are couriered nationwide.
