Understanding Exhaust Gaskets

Exhaust gaskets seal the joints between the manifold and cylinder head, the turbo and downpipe, and between pipe sections. They are designed to be replaced whenever a joint is disturbed, because they crush when tightened.

A failed gasket lets hot gas escape. Near the engine, this causes ticking, loss of turbo boost and possible heat damage to wiring and hoses nearby.

Questions

Common Questions About Land Rover exhaust gaskets

Can I reuse an exhaust gasket?

No. Most exhaust gaskets compress when tightened and will not seal properly a second time. Always fit a new one.

Should I replace the studs and nuts too?

Yes, where they are corroded or stretched. Old fixings often break and do not clamp the new gasket evenly.

Do I need exhaust sealant with a new gasket?

Usually not on manifold or turbo joints, where the gasket alone should seal. Sealant can help on some slip joints between pipe sections. Follow the part manufacturer's instructions.

What should I send to order exhaust gaskets?

The VIN, engine code and the joint you are working on, for example manifold, turbo outlet or a specific pipe flange.

Not sure which part fits?

Send your VIN or engine code and the SparesBoyz parts team will check fitment before quoting. Parts are couriered nationwide.
