Understanding Exhaust Pipes

Exhaust pipes link the sections of the exhaust system: the front pipe from the turbo or catalytic converter, the intermediate pipe along the underside, and the rear section to the tailpipe. Land Rover exhausts are made in sections so a damaged part can be replaced on its own.

Pipes rust from the inside out on vehicles that do short trips, because condensation does not burn off. Off-road, pipes can be crushed or torn by rocks, and low-hanging sections on Defenders are especially exposed.

Questions

Common Questions About Land Rover exhaust pipes

Can a rusted exhaust pipe be patched?

Exhaust repair tape and bandages are temporary fixes to get you home. For a lasting repair, replace the section.

Should I choose mild steel or stainless steel exhaust pipes?

Stainless steel resists rust much better and suits vehicles at the coast or used off-road. Mild steel is cheaper but may rust through sooner.

What do I need to replace exhaust pipes?

New gaskets or seals at each joint, clamps and rubber mounts. Penetrating oil and patience help with seized fittings.

What should I send to order exhaust pipes?

The VIN, engine code and which section you need. For Defenders, give the wheelbase and body style.

Not sure which part fits?

Send your VIN or engine code and the SparesBoyz parts team will check fitment before quoting. Parts are couriered nationwide.
