Understanding Tailpipe

The tailpipe is the final section of the exhaust that carries gases away from under the vehicle. On most Land Rovers it is part of the rear silencer section, and on newer models it may end behind a decorative finisher in the bumper.

Tailpipes on off-road vehicles get bent on steep departure angles and ledges, and a crushed tailpipe restricts flow and can direct fumes under the vehicle.

Questions

Common Questions About Land Rover tailpipe

Can I replace just the tailpipe?

On many Land Rovers the tailpipe is part of the rear silencer, so the complete rear section is replaced. Check the construction on your vehicle.

Why is there soot on my rear bumper?

Some soot is normal on older diesels. Heavy soot can point to injector or DPF problems, or to the tailpipe being out of position and blowing onto the bumper.

Can a bent tailpipe be straightened?

A slightly bent tailpipe can sometimes be straightened. If it is crushed, split or rusted, replace the section.

What should I send to order a tailpipe?

The VIN, engine code and a photo of the rear section. For Defenders, give the wheelbase.

Not sure which part fits?

Send your VIN or engine code and the SparesBoyz parts team will check fitment before quoting. Parts are couriered nationwide.
